With a name like Europcar it is no surprise to find that this global car rental company was born in France and headquartered in the sublime streets of Paris.

Today Europcar boasts over 200,000 vehicles in over 140 global locations that stretch from Europe and North America to the Middle East, Africa, Latin America, all the way to the Asian Pacific. However, it appears that Germany, France and the UK are the places where Europecar is best known and most widely used. Back home in France, the company lends their name to the French professional cycling team "Team Europcar" giving a strong hint of the company ethos.

Where Europcar is a true pioneer is in the sphere of climate change. In 2007 Europcar and Climate Care joined forces to help support local sustainable energy saving projects. Customers can take much of the credit for the project's success by agreeing to offset their carbon emissions every time they rent a vehicle from Europcar. Not only are the cars green but Europcar also prides itself on advanced recycling programs throughout their workshops and offices worldwide.

With Green Driving Tips offered on their website, Europcar have gone another step further and created "car2go," to be tested in the city of Hamburg. This innovative scheme sees small, snazzy Smart Cars equipped with rooftop solar panels and clean, green credentials dotted around the city streets to be rented on the spot for a mere 29 cents per minute or up to 14 euro per hour. Once finished, the satisfied customer merely needs to park it in an available space and it's ready for the next person!

Known in over 10,000 locations and with 200,000 cars on the road, Europcar may be a European favorite, but with a global presence and impressive environmental work including the recent order of 500 electric Renaults, Europcar is sure to garner more and more credit for its green crusade.
