China Southern flights

One of China's "Big Three" airlines China Southern is the world's sixth largest airline by passengers carried. With main bases are in Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport and Beijing Capital International Airport, China Southern flies to 121 destinations worldwide.

China Southern Airlines was established on 1 July 1988 following the restructuring of the Civil Aviation Administration of China. Since then, the airline acquired and merged with a number of domestic airlines, to become becoming one of the largest airlines in the world.

China Southern Airlines is a member of SkyTeam.

In June 2012, China Southern Airlines inaugurated its first flight from Guangzhou to London, also known as the "Canton Route" providing a link with the airline’s existing flights to Sydney and Melbourne, forming a one-stop connection between Australia and the UK.

How to check in

It is recommended that you arrive at the airport 90 minutes before your scheduled departure and go to the service counters to check-in baggage and collect boarding passes. Boarding closes 45 minutes before take-off on domestic flights and 45 to 60 minutes on international flights. You can also check-in online up to 24 hours before your flight. Alternatively, you could use SMS check-in, which is available up to one hour before the flight.

Baggage and Allowance Fees

First class passengers can carry on 2 pieces of baggage and other passengers 1 piece of baggage. Each bag must be no more than 5kg and under 115cm when length, width and height is totalled. For flights to Europe, Canada and USA the number of bags allowed varies between 2 and 3, each not weighing more than 50lbs (23kg). Gold and Silver card members of the Sky Pearl Club taking flights to Europe have an allowance of an additional piece of baggage. If you have more bags or they exceed the weight or measurement allowances then additional fees will be charged, which vary according to the destination.

Seating

China Southern boasts an impressive selection of seating, ranging from cocoon-like first class seats with built in electronic massage to economy class where seating is in a 2-4-2 configuration and seats are still at least 17" wide. Seats are selected on booking and you can either change or select your seat with web check-in.

Meals, Snacks and Drinks

Elaborate menus are provided for first class passengers. On the 12.5 hour flight from Guangzhou to London. "2.5 meals" are offered, including one brunch, one dinner and one Chinese refreshment. Special meals can be reserved, although each passenger can only apply for one special meal, including meals for religious faiths and special diets, children’s meals and vegetarian meals. A wide selection of wines and spirits is offered.

Booking Fees and Cancellations

China Southern's refund policy is based on a percentage of the original ticket price. While you're not allowed to change the name of the traveller (in most cases), you are allowed to refund or change the date and time of travel with a surcharge dependent on the cost of the ticket purchased. Before take-off there is a five per cent charge, after take-off there is a charge of ten per cent. You can apply for refunds or make changes to tickets online at the E-ticket website. According to the service conditions of passengers' fare, passengers need to pay for the relevant changes if necessary. Before the ticket is issued, passengers can cancel the original reservation record online and rebook another one.
