Cheap Tickets from Tampa

Conventions and amusement parks may be the biggest draws in Tampa, but there’s also a whole lot more to discover. Business and pleasure hold equal sway in this bustling Southern city, which has seen a wave of revitalization and restoration in recent years.

Flights from Tampa

Tampa International Airport (TPA) is an attractive and easy to navigate airport which serves more than 16.5 million passengers annually. It’s a hub for Silver Airlines, and Southwest Airlines is also a major carrier: during peak season they offer a schedule of 90 flights a day, so you should easily be able to find cheap flights from Tampa to your destination of choice.

The layout is based around a central terminal for ticketing and baggage. 4 satellite airsides are connected to the main terminal by high-speed elevated people movers. The usual hotel shuttles, taxis and limos provide ground transport, and there is some choice of scheduled public and private bus companies, but most travelers opt to rent a car. TPA’s rental car market is in the top 5 among U.S. airports, and prices are low.

Stuff to do in Tampa

Busch Gardens is a hugely popular destination for families and thrill-seekers. The park specializes in innovative and extreme rollercoasters but also offers shows and integrated live animal exhibits. On the other side of the city, the Florida Aquarium is home to 20,000 species of animals and plants, including sharks and polar bears.

Downtown, the pretty and lively Ybor City historic district offers fine dining and shopping by day and raucous club life by night. (Insider hint: La Teresita restaurant serves up a cheap and mouth-watering menu of pan-Latin food with a Cuban emphasis.) If you have an urge to lie on the beach, beautiful Clearwater is just a half-hour’s drive across the bay. For sports fans, MLB, NFL and NHL all have a strong presence here.

Advice to Tourists Visiting Tampa

The sub-tropical climate of Tampa means that dealing with summertime weather takes a bit preparation. Hydration and sunscreen are mandatory. If you’re visiting between June and September you can expect temps up to 90 degrees and impressive thunderstorms (which mostly pass in minutes).

Thanks to vacationing families, it’s also the busiest and most crowded time of the year, and lines at the parks can be oppressive. Try visiting in the fall, when the weather is calmer and cooler (around 70 degrees) and hotel prices plummet.
