Flights to Tel Aviv

Ben Gurion Airport (TLV) is often called “Natbag” by locals, in reference to the Hebrew initials of its name. It’s a busy spot, serving more than 14 million passengers annually, most of whom are international. TLV is centrally located within Israel, and operates as the main international gateway into the country.

The airport is an important hub for El Al, Arkia Airlines, and Israir Airlines. It is considered one of the most secure airports in the world, with very stringent screening and security protocols. While it may take a little more time to pass through multiple checkpoints, passengers say they feel extremely safe.

The main terminal in TLV is Terminal 3. This is where most international flights arrive. Terminal 1 handles more domestic flights, although there has recently been a move towards allowing low-cost airlines to provide cheap flights to Tel Aviv, which operate through Terminal 1.

What to Do in Tel Aviv

You can probably see most of the important historical and cultural sights in Tel Aviv over the course of an afternoon or two. There are a few wonderful museums, well worth a visit: the Diaspora Museum (Beit Hatfutsot) is dedicated to the history of the Jewish people all over the world. The Tel Aviv Art museum is one of the most important cultural institutions in Israel. The ancient town of Jaffa, just outside the city, is an absolute must-see.

There’s a strong beach scene here, so pencil in a few hours for sunbathing, at least. All in all, this city knows how to party, and the bars, pubs and clubs keep going till the wee small hours.

Advice to Tourists visiting Tel Aviv

Hebrew and Arabic are the main languages spoken here, but English fluency is also common. The currency is the Shekel (ILS). Summer is the most popular time to visit, mostly because the beach is such a draw, but crowds, prices, and temperatures are at their uncomfortable highest. We recommend traveling in spring, when temps are pleasant (in the 70s and 80s) and you can get a great deal on accommodation. Remember, Skyscanner’s free hotel price comparison tool can save you money whenever you decide to go.
