Flights to Knock

Flights to Knock are the most direct way to reach beautiful and unspoilt County Mayo. Often overlooked by visitors on the tourist trail, County Mayo has plenty in the way of wild scenery and charming towns. Go on pilgrimage to the mountain Croagh Patrick, celebrate the French-Irish rebellion in Killala, or pay a visit to the village of Cong where John Ford filmed The Quiet Man.

Airports in Knock

Ireland West Airport Knock (NOC) is the main airport serving County Mayo: and the village of Knock, of course. Over the years it’s been known as Knock International Airport, Connaught Regional Airport, and Horan International Airport. Ireland’s fourth busiest airport, Knock took home the title of ‘best regional airport’ in both 2006 and 2009.

The airport opened in the 1980’s, thanks to local priest Monsignor James Horan. He came up with the idea of building an international airport in Knock so that pilgrims from Rome could visit Knock Shrine. Despite criticisms that the land was too “foggy and boggy”, Horan won his battle: and a bronze statue of the priest now stands at the airport. His story was interesting enough to inspire a musical, On a Wing and a Prayer.

Controversially, all passengers over the age of 12 flying from Knock have to pay a €10 Development Fee towards the expansion and development of the airport.
