Air India offers a frequent flyer program called Flying Returns where members can earn FR points for flights on any Star Alliance airline. Points can be redeemed for travel rewards, including free flights and upgrades on Air India. Membership is free and open to anyone aged 2 or older. How to Check In, Seat Assignment, and Leg Room

Air India recommends that passengers arrive at the Indian airports 75 minutes before departure for domestic flights and 150 minutes prior to international flights. Those departing from Leh, Srinagar, and Jammu Airports should arrive at least 120 minutes before departure. Be aware that the check-in counter closes 45 minutes before domestic flights and 60 minutes before international flights.

Passengers can select the seat of their choice through the Preferred Seat Select Scheme that is available on every route operated by Air India. For a fee, participants can enjoy extra leg room and the added benefit of getting off the plane before other passengers. Seat selection is available up to 2 hours before departure of international flights and 1 hour before domestic flights. For flights from India, the fee ranges from $15-$55 depending on the destination.

Baggage Allowance and Fees

p>Air India allows all passengers to bring one piece of carry-on baggage and one personal item. On Boeing and Airbus aircraft, the carry-on baggage may not exceed 22"x14"x10" or 45 total inches. On ATR models, hang baggage must be smaller than 22"x14"x8" or a total of 43 inches. The maximum weight for carry-on baggage is 17.6lbs.

In addition to a carry-on, all passengers may bring a personal item, as long as it meets security requirements. Permitted items include a purse, overcoat, blanket, camera, or laptop. Other examples include a foldable umbrella, a walking stick, or collapsible wheelchair.

For domestic travel, passengers are allowed one free checked bag. In Economy Class, the maximum weight is 55lbs for all checked baggage. The allowance increases to 77lbs for Business Class and 88lbs for First Class. Infants are allowed up to 22lbs of free checked baggage.

Passengers traveling to the United States are allowed to bring 2 checked bags for free. The maximum weight for each bag is 50lbs in Economy Class and 70lbs for Business and First Class. Pieces weighing more than the allowed weight will be subject to a fee of $100, while additional pieces will be $200 each.

Service On Board: In-flight Entertainment and Meals

Air India offers multiple on-board services, including meals and entertainment options. On select flights, Economy Class passengers can enjoy their choice of continental or Indian cuisine, complimentary liquor or wine, strategically placed movie screens, and temperature control systems.

Executive or Business Class passengers will enjoy plush seats, convenient aisle or window seating, and an entree and wine. First Class passengers can choose from a variety of meal options, as well as complimentary wine or champagne.

All Air India passengers can choose from over 500 hours of movies, TV shows, music, and audio books to keep them entertained on both short and long-haul flights.

Child Fares/Fees, Minor Service Guidelines

Air India allows children up to 24 months to sit on a guardian's lap for a fee of 10% of the normal adult fare. Additional infants or children older than 2 will be charged 75% of the normal adult fare on both domestic and international flights.

The carrier considers children ages 5-12 years old who are traveling alone as unaccompanied minors. Unaccompanied minors are permitted on all Air India operated flights, but guardians must fulfill all necessary requirements at least 3 working days prior to the scheduled flight. To sign up for unaccompanied minor service, simply fill out the form on the Air India website and submit 3 copies to the carrier's nearest office.

Pet Policy

Air India accepts pets on board most flights. For domestic routes, the airline allows dogs, cats, and birds with a valid Health and Rabies vaccination certificate. The animal can fly in the cabin or as cargo and is subject to the airline's requirements. All pets must be carried in soft ventilated bags or kennels. The maximum size of the container in the cabin is 18"x18"x12" and 11lbs. Larger pets or containers must be carried in cargo. Be aware that only two pets are permitted on each domestic flight, and each container is subject to the normal excess baggage fee.

The airline also permits pets on most international flights with proper documentation. Normal excess baggage charges for international routes will apply. Pets are not permitted on any nonstop flight between India and the United States.
