Asiana Airlines is one of two major air carriers based in South Korea, and came about as a competitor to Korean Air. Asiana Airlines was first known as Seoul Air International when it started in 1988,and now it is a Star Alliance member and has more than 100 domestic and international routes throughout Asia, Oceania, Europe and North America.

Asiana Air boasts more than 90 international destinations in 26 countries on its itinerary, making it one of the more robust air carriers outside of the U.S. or Europe. Asiana flights land on four continents! Prominent North American destinations include Anchorage, Atlanta, Chicago, Dallas, Honolulu, Los Angeles (LAX), Miami, New York (JFK), San Francisco and Seattle. The Asiana Air fleet consists of more than 70 passenger aircraft and 11 cargo freighters, with nearly 60 aircraft on order over the next 10 years. The largest passenger craft for Asiana flights is the Airbus A380-800, which hold nearly 500 passengers, while the smallest is the 156-passenger Airbus A320-200. Asiana also uses Airbus 330, 350 and 380 models, as well as Boeing 747s and 767s.

When you fly Asiana on an international flight from Seoul, you are treated with restaurant-quality, traditional Korean food as part of the in-flight meal service. Asiana Airlines collaborates with several top restaurants and chefs to create the menu. First Class passengers are asked to make their menu request when they make their reservation, as food is prepared 24 hours before departure.

Asiana flights to the United States have a specific baggage policy compared to some other routes. Carry-on bags are not allowed to be bigger than 45.25 linear inches nore weight more than 22 pounds. First class passengers are allowed two such bags, while economy are allowed one. With checked luggage, the size cannot exceed 62 linear inches, and all bags should not be heavier than 70 pounds. The first two checked bags are free.

Asiana Airlines flights are all part of the prestigious Star Alliance, which means passengers on Asiana flights or other alliance-member airlines can redeem frequent-flier points and receive other benefits seamlessly among the various carriers.
