About Azul Airlines

Azul Linhas Aéreas Brasileiras S.A. was launched by JetBlue founder David Neeleman (who was actually born in Brazil).  Azul (which means “blue”) took its first flight to the skies in 2008.  It added international flights in 2014 and now flies to more than 100 destinations in Brazil.

On time for more than 80% of flights, Azul has been ranked third best airline in the world on Trip Advisor.

Azul Airlines Hubs & Focus Cities

  • Belo Horizonte - Tancredo Neves / Confins International Airport (CNF). This airport serves the Belo Horizonte metropolitan area and is situated in the municipality of Confins at an elevation of about 2700 feet above sea level.  It is not that close to downtown Belo Horizonte but the government is working on providing better transportation between the city and the airport.  The airport has two passenger terminals in service.
  • Viracopos/Campinas International Airport (VCP). Sometimes called Sao Paolo/Campinas, this airport is located in Campinas in the state of Sao Paolo in Brazil, at an elevation of 2170 feet above sea level.  Although the airport’s three letter code is VCP, sometimes the code for Campinas, CPQ, is used by some people.  Passenger traffic has grown tremendously since Azul made it a hub, and the airport is used by many cargo planes as well.
  • Recife/Guararapes-Gilberto Freyre International Airport (REC). This airport serves the city of Recife in the Brazilian state of Pernambuco, at an elevation of 33 feet above sea level.  The airport is used for passengers but some facilities are used by the local Brazilian Air Force.  The airport has been renovated several times, most recently for the 2014 FIFA World Cup.  Azul’s commitment to Recife as a hub has greatly increased the status of the airport.
  • Focus cities: Curitiba; Manaus, Porto Alegre; Rio de Janeiro-Santos Dumont; Salvador da Bahia; Sao-Paolo-Congonhas; Sao-Paolo-Guarulhas.

How to Check In

Like most modern airlines you can check in online, by mobile, or at the counter in the airport. Mobile check in is available via the Azul app and also via SMS. Both online and mobile check in are available from 48 hours to 90 minutes before your flight is due to depart, and earn you 250 frequent flyer points.

Baggage Allowance and Fees

Baggage allowances are limited on Azul flights, so be sure to understand what’s included before arriving at the airport to avoid incurring fees for extra or overweight baggage. Carry-ons are allowed, and should have a maximum weight of 5 kilos (11lbs) each. The total size of the carry-on baggage should not exceed 115 cm (48.2 in). All checked baggage must not exceed 32 kg (70 lbs) and cannot exceed 158 cm (62in) in cumulative measurement (length x width x height). Passengers flying on Azul Extra Business Class are allowed up to three checked bags, while Economy fliers are allowed up to two.Excess baggage is charged a penalty fine per kilo. Excess baggage such as sports equipment falls into your 50lbs (23kg) weight limit, so be careful.

Prepaid baggage allowance can be purchased online or by phone up to eight hours prior to flight departure. This is highly encouraged as passengers can save 50% in fees by purchasing ahead of time versus at the check-in desk. Standard prices are as follows: 1 extra baggage: US$ 95.00, 2 extra baggage: US$ 190.00, 3 extra baggage: US$ 285.00. Customers should also note that refunds on extra baggage are not allowed for any reason.

Seating – Leg Room, Choosing Seats

Seats at the front of the plane have extra legroom. You can pay an extra fee to reserve one of these seats, or buy an Azul Plus ticket when you book your flight for guaranteed extra comfort. The standard economy seats offer a fair amount of legroom, with a 31” seat pitch.

Airport Shuttle Bus Service

Passengers on Azul Air should take advantage of the company’s complimentary shuttle service at the airport. Buses run through several routes in Sao Paulo (Interior), Sao Paulo Capitol, and Parceiros. Reservations are not required, but passengers should plan to choose the bus that arrives at least 60 minutes prior to the departure of their flight. For bus routes and more information, visit the Azul Airlines website or contact the airline directly.

Meals, Snacks, Drinks

Free snacks and non-alcoholic drinks are available on all routes. There’s a choice of eight tasty snacks to choose from, including cake, airplane-shaped gummies, chips, and goiabinha--a jelly-filled biscuit. The airline also offers eight types of refreshing drinks to choose from. Customers can take a look at the entire menu on the Azul Airlines website to plan ahead their order for the flight.

On-Time Punctuality

Azul Brazilian Airlines have a great history for punctuality, and won the 2013 FlightStats award for “Most Punctual Airline in South America.”
