If you’re in the UK and Europe, you’re likely to have already heard about Flybe Airlines--the largest independent regional carrier in Europe.
The airline has been in service since 1979, when it was known as Jersey European Airlines. In 2002, the company changed its name again, this time to British European. The rather serious sounding name intended to reflect the company’s ambition and dedication to becoming the number one, full-service airline in Europe.
The name, however, was short-lived. In 2002, the company changed its name to the shorter, friendlier sounding Flybe Airlines. The name was chosen to reflect the transformation of the airline’s business model into a high-quality, low cost airline--a move that addressed the increasing global necessity for lower cost travel. The rebrand was successful, and customers responded well the the company’s bright new logo, modern approach to travel and the high quality, low cost Flybe flights.
Today, Flybe Airlines consistently graces the top of many travel magazine lists as one of the best short-haul and long-haul carriers in the world. In 2015, the company joined forces with Skyscanner to launch its “One Stop to the World” platform, a powerful new search engine that pairs Flybe flights with its many codeshare partners around the world. The search engine promises to make Flybe bookings faster, more affordable, and easier than ever before.
Travelers flying with Flybe Air or a Flybe flight operated by another airline are encouraged to check with the company before making plans to check or carry baggage onto the aircraft, as baggage limits differ according to destination, ticket class and ticket type.
You can check in online from 36 hours before your flight departs and up to 1 hour before and are able to print out your own boarding pass for travel. There are special Flybe self service kiosks, check in desks and bag drops at the airport terminals for a speedier check-in experience.
For those taking domestic flights with only hand baggage, these kiosks can be used to check-in 20 minutes prior to departure. If you have check-in baggage you can use them 30 minutes before your flight departs.
For international flights the timings are 45 minutes with only hand baggage and 60 minutes with check-in bags. Those unable to check-in at the kiosk or online are encouraged to visit the check-in desk, and a Flybe attendant will be happy to assist you.
