How to Check In, Seat Assignment, Leg Room, and Other Fees

Japan Airlines offers a convenient "Touch & Go" service for all domestic flights that allows customers to forego traditional check-in procedures. When booking a reservation, passengers complete all necessary information, purchase tickets, and select seats. When you arrive at the airport for a domestic flight, simply drop off your baggage at the baggage counter, walk through the security checkpoints, and then board your flight.

Japan Airlines allows children ages 5-17 to travel alone on its aircraft, with guidelines depending on the type of flight and destination. The service is mandatory for children ages 5-14, and there is a service fee of $150 plus tax each way.

Pet Policy

Japan Airlines welcomes pets in the cargo compartment of all aircrafts for a fee of $50, $250, or $400 based on the destination. Passengers who wish to travel with their pets must contact the airline at the time of the reservation or at least several days before the flight. The carrier accepts dogs, cats, small birds, rabbits, ferrets, hamsters, marmots, squirrels, and chinchillas. Dogs and cats must be at least 8 weeks old, and no pregnant animals will be accepted.

All pets must be in a crate that is large enough for the animal stand up, lie down, and turn around. When making the reservation, the passenger must inform the airline of the crate size and total weight. The maximum dimensions for a crate holding a rabbit, hamster, or other strong-teeth pet is 12.5"x15.3"x12.5". All containers must be durable and have proper ventilation.

Certified service animals like guide dogs and assistance dogs are allowed to accompany their owners in the passenger cabin, but advanced arrangements must be made. Passengers with service animals are required to show any necessary documentation prior to boarding.
