Formally known as LAN Airline South America, LATAM Airlines group has taken over operations, and the airline will run under the name LATAM Chile as of 2016. LAN Chile Airlines use to the the flag carrier of Chile, until it was privatized in the 90’s. In 2010, LAN and TAM, a Brazilian airline, merged and created LATAM, the largest airline conglomerate in Latin America. The main operational hub is Comodoro Arturo Merino Benítez International Airport in Santiago, Chile. It is one of the largest airlines in Latin America, with flights to Europe, Oceania, North America, Latin America and the Caribbean.
The LATAM fleet in an impressive 316 aircrafts, which are a mixture of Airbus and Boeing models. This large fleet services over 1200 flights daily, and in 2012, this airline became the first to service flights with the Boeing 787 Dreamliner. The bulk of the fleet is made up of the Airbus A320 model, which seats about 150, followed by the Boeing 767-300ER model, seating about 220 passengers, and mostly used on international flights. Most models have dual class, allowing for passengers seeking a more private, luxury experience to upgrade. Upgrading to Premium Class also gets you priority check in and boarding, and access to LATAM VIP lounges in select airports. Those who are flying routes that offer the upgrade option will receive an email days before the flight inviting you to participate.
