South African Airways flights & tickets

South African Airline was founded in 1932, when the South African government acquired Union Airways. It is currently the largest airline and flag carrier airline of South Africa, operating out of OR Tambo International Airport in Kempton Park, Ekurhuleni, Gauteng, and servicing 38 destinations worldwide. As of 2006, South African Airways split from its parent company Transnet, and continues to operate independently. South African airline is the official airline of the Association of Tennis Professionals. SAA also operates as a member of Star Alliance, one of the world’s largest airline alliances, and owns a low-cost domestic airline called Mango.

South African air is one of the few airlines that flies to all six inhabited continents, servicing 37 destinations on 26 countries. SAA has a large presence in South Africa, but only offers a few domestic flights because their daughter airline Mango services the majority of domestic flight needs in South Africa. SAA’s fleet consists of 52 planes, and the majority of those are Airbus aircrafts. There are also a small amount of Boeing 737-800s used for domestic flights. In the years to come, SAA will phase out the Boeing models in favor of an all Airbus fleet.
