Southern Airways Express flights & tickets

Ready to feel like an executive without the cufflinks? Southern Airways Express is a rare commuter carrier that operates with planes small enough that it can fly around many FAA and U.S. Department of Transportation rules and regulations. The airline was started in 2013 by an attorney who had his own personal pilot, who joked about starting a short-haul carrier line because the attorney’s plane was being borrowed so often.

What makes Southern Express Airways so unusual in the commuter-air market is that it does not carry more than 10 passengers on any flight, and it uses Cessna 208 Caravan aircraft, which weigh less than 4.25 tons when empty. Therefore, many regulations that apply to commercial carriers do not apply to Southern Express Airways. The big difference is convenience. In some airports, for example, Southern Express Airlines operates from executive terminals, which means passengers do not have to check in at the main terminal, nor do they have to pass through TSA.

As you might guess, considering the size of the planes in service with Southern Express Airways, there are no fare classes. All seats are considered “business class,” and the fare is most affordable when all seats are being sold. Once the flight starts to fill up and seats are at a premium, the fare will go up, so booking early is always a desired plan. With no parking fees, baggage fees or other regulatory fees that other commercial airlines must charge, Southern Express Airlines fares are usually less than what you might find with other commercial airlines flying into those same airports.

Why Fly With Southern Airways Express

Southern Airways Express Destinations

As a small commuter airline, Mississippi-based Southern Express Airlines covers a pretty wide swath of the U.S., especially in the gulf region and the mid-atlantic from its hubs in Memphis and Pittsburgh, respectively. These destinations include Washington Dulles, Baltimore-Washington International (BWI), Atlanta Hartsfield, Nashville, Memphis, Pittsburgh, Destin, Fla., Morgantown, W. Va., Jackson, Miss., Johnstown, Pa., and Jamestown, N.Y., among others.

Southern Airways Express Baggage Information

As long as you carry no more than 50 pounds of baggage in total, you can bring aboard any number of bags at no charge on a Southern Express Airlines flight, and even oversize bags may be placed on the plane if space is available (remember, these planes do not hold more than 10 passengers, so it may be needless to say that space is limited).
