Why Fly with Swiss Airlines?

How to Check In

The wide range of choices offered by Swiss at check-in make planning your trip much easier: check-in machines at the airport; an automated option where the check-in is done for you; mobile check-in, with your boarding pass being sent directly to your phone; or web check-in which allows you to check in online. Whether travelling with or without baggage you can use web check-in and mobile check-in from 23 hours before departure. As always, check-in times and counter/gate closures vary by airport and route.

Baggage Allowance and Fees

The maximum weight for carry-on luggage is 18lbs (8kg) and the size limit is 22inx16inx9in (55cmx40cmx23cm). Economy passengers can carry on 1 bag and other classes 2 bags. Hold luggage allowance also varies with booking class: economy passengers can check in 1 bag with a maximum weight of 50lbs (23kg), business class 2 bags and first class 3 bags with a max weight of 70lbs (32kg). Rules do vary between routes though: the number of items of baggage, and in some cases the weight limit, may be higher on some routes for economy passengers. There are increased baggage allowances for frequent flyers. If you have more bags than the permitted allowance or they exceed the weight or measurement restrictions, then you will be charged additional fees. Some checked items (e.g. bicycles) will be charged a fixed handling fee based on size, fragility, or other requirements.

Bags that are overweight on international Swiss Air flights have a $150 charge, and bags that are over sized will cost $300 each, with the rates adjusted to local currency if you are in a non-U.S. departure airport. Bags that are bigger and heavier will be assessed a charge of $450.

Passengers can make their seating selection during the booking process, it can also be reserved or changed up to 48hrs before the flight. Seats can be selected or changed with web check-in. On intercontinental flights you can also reserve a seat in economy class; however, SWISS do not to guarantee seat choices. Seating on intercontinental economy flights is arranged 2-4-2 with a seat width of 18in/44cm (the standard size for this class of seating).
