The airline was founded in 1995 under the name Société de Transport Aérien Régional. It changed names in 1997 to Star Airlines, and again in 2006, to XL Airways France. In 2008, the airline was bought by Straumur Investment Bank, and continues to service flights in Africa, The Caribbean, North America, and Europe.
