Terminals at Istanbul Ataturk Airport

This largest airport in Turkey is located 15 miles west of Istanbul's center, on the European side of this bi-continental city. It has two main passenger terminals that are connected to one another. One terminal is for domestic flights within Turkey, and the other is an international terminal. There are other buildings on the property, but they are used for general aviation and dedicated cargo purposes.

Travel From Istanbul Airport

To get from the main international airport in Istanbul to the center of the city passengers can use various types of ground transportation. Some local hotels run a shuttle service to and from the airport for their guests on an hourly basis. Check with your hotel prior to landing for times and pick-up spots. The Havas and Havatas airport buses leaves from the Arrivals level of both terminals to take travelers to Taksim Square in the city center on the European side of town. It leaves the airport every 30 minutes until 1:00 a.m. and takes between 30 and 45 minutes to get to its destination. This method of transport is easy and inexpensive. If yu are going to Bostanci or Kadikoy, you can catch a shuttle bus that takes you to the Seabus Port in Bakirkoy, from where you can catch a sea bus to your destination. The shuttle bus to the sea port takes just 15 minutes from Istanbul Airport.

The Metro is Istanbul's subway service, which is a good way to travel and save money. There is an underground walkway to the terminal that is about a 15-minute walk away from the International Terminal. You can take the Metro to Aksaray, where there are connections to the city tram and bus system, within about 30 minutes.. Rental cars are available in both the International and Domestic Arrivals areas. You can make your way between the two terminals either via the underground Metro walkway, which takes about 10 minutes.

Sabiha Gokcen International Airport Information

An alternate airport to use for travel to Istanbul is Sabiha Gokcen Airport, located 22 miles southeast of the center of Istanbul on the Asian side of the city. The airport handles over 25 million passengers a year and has been honored with many awards for its efficiency and growth.

There are no direct flights between Sabiha Airport and the United States. This airport is a hub for Pegasus Airlines and is also a base for Turkish Airlines and Borajet. Airlines that fly to Sabiha Gokcen Airport also include:
