Car rental from Glasgow

Before boarding a flight and arriving in Glasgow, seriously consider renting a car. Skyscanner can help travelers find the cheapest car rentals from the Glasgow Airport.

Arrival at Glasgow Airport

There are eight rental car companies at the airport, all opposite the main terminal: Avis, Europcar, National, Alamo, Hertz, Enterprise, Budget, and Dollar/Thrifty — just follow the signs. Whether renting a large van, a cozy sedan, or something in between, it will be simple to wander the city — just make sure to have a driver's license (both the card and the paper equivalent). Glasgow Airport is just off the M8, allowing for easy access to the city. The airport is 9 miles West of downtown and reachable in about 20 minutes, depending on traffic.

What to See and Do in Glasgow

If travelers want to learn about the ubiquitous bagpipes, they should visit the National Piping Centre (7 miles away), where they can hear about the history of this Celtic cult classic in six languages, including Gaelic. While the museum specializes in the history of the Highland bagpipe, it displays bagpipes from Lowland Scotland, other parts of the British Isles, and mainland Europe as well.

The Gallery of Modern Art (13 minutes away) and the Botanic Gardens (12 minutes away) are some of Glasgow's most visited attractions, and both are free. The Botanic Gardens has a children's play area and a tea room, where visitors can enjoy a stellar afternoon tea! Tourists can stroll through Kibble Palace, a 19th-Century wrought iron glasshouse, and view hundred-year-old tree ferns from New Zealand and Australia, as well as sculptures of Biblical characters.

For Doctor Who fans, an entire self-guided Whovian tour is available. A giant sunken Dalek is near Clyde Street. St. Ninian's High School (attended by Twelfth Doctor, Peter Capaldi) is on Bellfield Road. The tenth Doctor, David Tennant, attended the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland. Six of the UK's 14 remaining police call boxes are in Glasgow — Wilson Street, Buchanan Street, Gallowgate, Sauchiehall Street, Great Western Road, and Cathedral Square.

Feeling up for some whiskey? For a modest price and unforgettable experience, aspiring brewers can create their own single malt version of Scotland's national drink at Glengoyne Distillery. When renting a car with Skyscanner, the only limit is the road!

Outside Glasgow

Want to see more? The capital city of Edinburgh is an hour away. In Edinburgh, visitors can tour the house of Presbyterian reformer John Knox, the National War Museum, or even book a falconry experience at Edinburgh Falconry and Fishing.

Returning the Car

Simply take the M8 to Junction 28 (if coming from the east) or Junction 29 (if coming from the west). There is a petrol station at Glasgow Airport, so returning the car with a full tank of gas is a breeze! The station is on White Cart Road, Renfrewshire PA3 2. It's easiest to fill up here for a modest price — filling up at the rental location can be expensive. If for some reason this station isn't open, there is another 24-hour station about a mile away.
