Langkawi Airport is located on the picturesque island of Langkawi in Malaysia. Langkawi is the largest island in a beautiful archipelago of 99 islands. Because of its warm weather, calm beaches, and interesting ecology it has become one of the most popular beach vacation destinations in Malaysia. Well-marked roads and very little traffic make a rental car the best way to see all the beauty and fun there is on Langkawi.
Renting a Car from Langkawi Airport
Near baggage claim in the arrivals terminal are several car rental company representatives ready to help you into the perfect rental car. You can choose from Avis, Budget, Europcar, Hertz, or Sixt. Assuming you're departing from this same airport, make sure you'll be able to drop the car off at your departure. Also, be sure to get the phone number for customer service in case any issues arise.
Driving around Langkawi Airport
There are a few major routes accessible from the airport. Route 112 Southbound will take you to the town of Kuah, and if you continue, it will take you on a nice loop around the entire island, including the West coast. Route 115 South will lead you to Kampung Lubok Buaya, while the Northern path will bring you to Kuala Periang. Stay on the marked routes and avoid the small detours into the villages to avoid getting lost, and you'll have a great time, with great views, making your way around the island.
Attractions on Langkawi
Langkawi's ecosystem is a UNESCO recognized Geopark. The beauty is best observed from above, and the SkyCab and SkyBridge attractions deliver views that will wow every visitor. From the airport, head North on Route 115. Continue as it turns into Route 114, making sure to stay headed North/West. When the route dead-ends at Jalan Teluk Yu Road, or Route 113, turn left. Follow Route 113 and in less than five minutes you'll see the signs to turn left into the Panorama Langkawi experience.
Here is where you'll start your SkyCab cable car ride up above the forest to the top of the mountain, the SkyCab Top Station. This station sells tickets to the SkyBridge. The SkyBridge is a 125-meter pedestrian walkway suspension bridge with spectacular views on all sides.
Animal lovers might want a more close-up experience with the local wildlife. On the Western side of the island and off of Route 112 is the Langkawi Wildlife Park. A wide range of creatures cover the 5.5 acre facility, many of which you are encouraged to interact with directly. An on-site parking lot makes arrival easy.
In the city of Kuah, Crocodile Park and Underwater World showcase the marine side of the animal world. Underwater World is quite large, and the experience includes a 3D theatre plus an underwater tunnel for a true undersea viewing experience.
Langkawi is a jewel of an island and is best explored from behind the wheel. Having the freedom to roam plus the relaxing feeling of setting your own pace only add to the idyllic island experience. Land at Langkawi Airport, pick-up your rental car, then cruise off into your own version of paradise.
