Renting a Car at San Jose International Airport (SJC)
The Car Rental Center at Mineta San Jose International Airport is located just across the street from Terminal B. If you’re flying into terminal A, you can grab the marked blue intra-terminal shuttle bus for a quick free ride to the center.
If you’re flying in very early or very late, it’s worth knowing that the Avis airport location is open 24 hours.
More San Jose Agency Locations
It’s sometimes possible to pay less for rental cars if you pick up from an off-airport location. Hertz Rent A Car has a location at 3076 Almaden Expressway, just 10 minutes away from SJC, and Budget has an office 10 minutes in the other direction at 328 Sango Ct Milpitas.
If you’re looking for something luxurious, like a world-class sports convertible or a huge Escalade SUV, Enterprise has an exotic car collection for rent near San Jose at their 2752 De La Cruz Blvd, Santa Clara location.
Driving in San Jose
San Jose can suffer from crippling traffic jams at rush hours. The Highway 101 corridor in particular may feel like one long parking lot from as early as 6:30 am. Roads clear out dramatically around 9:30 am, so you’ll still have most of the day left for peaceful driving.
When driving in the city, be aware that some intersections are restricted by the VTA Light Rail, which crosses over the streets.
Parking in San Jose
Parking in San Jose can be a challenge, but the city Downtown Association has put together a great resource which lists many options for both on and off street parking. There’s a parking map, a list of programs and services, and even notifications of special events that may impact parking availability.
Most on-street parking in San Jose is free after 6pm, except for spaces that are reserved for neighborhood permits, and some streets around the arena.
Fun in the Sun: See all of San Jose with a Car
If you’d rather spend your spare time on the beach instead of on your feet, we highly recommend a rental car. Catch a summertime baseball game with the San Jose Giants A-league team, or cool off at Raging Waters, a thrilling water park which features a 350,000 gallon wave pool.
The city is also full of idyllic picnic spots, so pack up the cooler and the car and prepare for some wonderful outdoor dining. In fact, you can even reserve yourself a table at the San Jose Parks and Recreation website!
