Cathay Pacific Airways’s frequent flyer program is the Marco Polo Club.

It costs $100 to join the Marco Polo Club.  The club has four tiers:

  • Green members can use designated Marco Polo Club counters for you and your traveling companion, priority boarding and can use points for extra-legroom seats, extra baggage and access to Business Class lounges
  • Silver members (300 club points must be earned) can use extra legroom seats if available, advanced seat reservation, priority wait listing, Business Class counters, priority boarding, additional allowance for both carry-on and checked baggage, Cathay Pacific Business Class lounge when flying on Cathay Pacific or Cathay Dragon, may use Asia miles to enter Business class lounges
  • Gold members (600 club points must be earned). Benefits similar to Silver members but includes additional baggage allowance and priority over Silver members.  Also, guaranteed Economy Class seat and may use Arrival Lounges in Hong Kong and Frankfurt.

Some differences in baggage allowances exist, depending on destination.  But in general, these are the allowances:

  • For Economy and Premium Economy – permitted to bring one bag weighing up to 15 pounds with maximum dimensions of 9 x 14 x 22 inches
  • For Business – permitted to bring one bag weighing up to 22 pounds with maximum dimensions of 9 x 14 x 22 inches
  • For Business – permitted to bring one bag weighing up to 33 pounds with maximum dimensions of 9 x 14 x 22 inches

Cathay Pacific: Checked bags

  • For Economy flights to and from the Americas, two bags weighing up to 66 pounds total are complimentary
  • For Premium Economy flights to and from the Americas, two bags weighing up to 77 pounds total are complimentary
  • For Business flights to and from the Americas, two bags weighing up to 88 pounds total are complimentary
  • For First Class flights to and from the Americas, two bags weighing up to 110 pounds total are complimentary

Cathay Pacific: Child Fares/Fees, Minor Guidelines


  • Infants between 7 days and 24 months may be booked on an infant ticket
  • The infant will not occupy a seat but is held on the lap of an adult
  • Baggage allowances for infants vary. Usually it is limited to one piece of luggage or 22 pounds
  • Infant fares are calculated as a percentage of the adult fare. If the child experiences his second birthday during the trip, for example before the return journey, the return fare will be for a child.

Child tickets

  • May usually be purchased for infants, gives own seat
  • Recommended if you want to use your car seat or restraints
  • Children flying with their own seats have the usual baggage allowance
  • Cathay Pacific has a variety of meals for kids

Unaccompanied Minor Service

  • Must be used for passengers aged 6 to 12, unless accompanied by someone 18 years or older
  • Available for passengers aged 12 through 17 years
  • This service cannot be arranged online but must be ordered by contacting the reservation office or your travel agent
  • Fees apply
  • This service is not available on all flights
  • Other airlines have different rules, so if the passenger will travel on a codeshare flight or make a transfer, contact that airline too for their rules

Cathay Pacific Airways: Pet Policy

For all animals:

In all cases, notify Cathay Pacific local reservation office as soon as you can and certainly at least 48 hours before your flight.

Be aware of the health regulations and special documents for animals traveling to and from your particular destinations.  If you are traveling to Hong Kong, contact their Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department, and if you are traveling elsewhere, contact the IATA Travel Center.

Assistance dogs

  • Assistance dogs are welcome in the cabin but regulations must be followed
  • Service dogs must be accredited either by “Assistance Dogs Europe” or “Assistance Dogs International”
  • If flying to Hong Kong, apply for “Special Permit from the Hong Kong Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department”
  • If your assistance dog is used for emotional support, you will need additional documentation attesting to your need for an emotional support dog
  • A larger dog can sit at your feet; a smaller dog may sit on your lap. All must be leashed/harnessed at all times.

Pets in the cabin

Except for service dogs, Cathay Pacific does not permit animals in the cabin.

Pets checked as baggage

  • When you reserve transportation for your pet, be prepared to describe the container thoroughly. That includes the dimensions, the make, the material, and how much it weighs with your pet inside.
  • Cathay Pacific cannot accept snub-nosed animals as checked luggage, as they may have trouble breathing. For cats, this means Burmese, Persian, Himalayan, exotic shorthair and some others. For dogs, there are many breeds, but some examples include Boston terriers, boxers, bulldogs, Pekingese, pit bulls and all pugs.
  • Cathay Pacific does not accept certain fighting breeds of dogs, due to threats they can pose. These include American pit bulls, Japanese tosas and others.
  • Cathay Pacific will not accept neither Korean squirrels nor skunks for transport.
