About Ogdensburg International Airport (OGS)
Ogdensburg International Airport is located on New York's northern border and is very close to the Canadian province of Ontario as well as Canada's capital city Ottawa. It is primarily a general aviation airport, but there are presently commercial flights available to Albany and to Florida. There is no international commercial service to or from this airport, but it gets the designation due to use for international shipping and customs.
Cheap Flights From Ogdensburg International Airport (OGS)
OGS only has two carriers serving three destinations at present. Allegiant Air flies out of OGS and serves Orlando and Fort Lauderdale in Florida. Additionally, regional airline Cape Air offers flights to Albany from OGS. The Cape Air flights are subsidized under the federal Essential Air Services program, meaning that fares are usually reasonable but flights are on smaller aircraft that will sometimes have a very sparse passenger count. Many passengers from Canada use this service as a more affordable way to get to Boston than by flying out of Ottawa. To find out when the best prices are available on OGS flights, use the Month Search feature for a list of flight prices by day.
Connecting to Albany International Airport opens up quite a few additional options. American Airlines, American Eagle, Delta, JetBlue, Southwest and United all have flights out of Albany to major cities throughout the United States and there is particular competition among them to Chicago. Cape Air also serves Boston from Albany, and another regional service called Boutique Air flies to Massena.
Another possibility is making the roughly hour-long drive across the border to Ottawa. Ottawa Macdonald-Cartier International Airport is one of the largest airports in Canada and has flights to a wide variety of both domestic and international destinations. As mentioned previously, however, pricing specifically to Boston (through Cape Air) will be cheaper from Ogdensburg than from Ottawa.
Features of OGS for Outbound Passengers
Since OGS is a relatively low-traffic airport, passengers should not expect too much in the way of amenities. The small size of the airport does mean that there's about as little walking as possible, however! There are no restaurants on site, but it is close to downtown Ogdensburg which has a range of food options and hotels. For passengers, the main appeal of OGS is getting in and out as quickly as possible. A wider range of services are available for pilots including free WiFi, computer and printer access, and a private lounge.
The city of Ogdensburg does not have public transit to the airport. However, it's a fairly short taxi ride from downtown. Public transit does not run directly from Ottawa to Ogdensburg, but Greyhound has a line that goes to Prescott which is about 10 miles from Ogdensburg and has taxi service.
