About San Jose International Airport (SJC)
San Jose has become part of the world's technology center, and the airport is appropriately busy with over 10 million passengers per year (though still not as busy as nearby San Francisco and Oakland). As one would expect for such a major business destination, there are a wide variety of carriers operating at SJC offering regular flights to destinations throughout the world. San Jose's traffic is overwhelmingly regional, however, with millions of cumulative passengers yearly traveling to major cities in the Western states. In terms of international traffic, most of it goes to and from Tokyo, several airports in Mexico and Beijing.
Cheap Flights from SJC
With so many different carriers and flights, San Jose International is a great place to shop for travel deals. The Flights Comparison Map helps you determine who has the best fare to your desired destination on a specific date, while the Month Search tool lets you compare upcoming fares on a day-by-day basis if you've got flexible travel plans.
Just about every "big name" carrier flies out of SJC, but their flight offerings vary. Generally speaking, the closer your destination is to San Jose, the more competition you'll see among the carriers. As you get farther out, especially with the international destinations, you're limited to one or two choices. For example, Hainan Airlines is the only option to Beijing, British Airways is the only option to London, and All Nippon Airways is the only option to Tokyo.
Features of SJC for Outbound Passengers
San Jose's airport is very close to the downtown area. In addition to cheap cab fares, this also means there are a wide range of public transportation options. The city maintains a large amount of park-and-ride lots that offer free parking for up to a week at a time and are served by either light rail or buses. 14 of these are at light rail stations and the remainder are served by buses. The regional Caltrain light rail (which travels all the way north to San Francisco) also has a free shuttle that runs between the airport and the Santa Clara stop seven days a week. Of course, there are many different private shuttles and taxi services available as well.
As you would expect from such a busy airport in a technology center, SJC has many different amenities and dining options. Free WiFi is available throughout the airport courtesy of the city. There are also massage chairs, a nursing room, an optic wash kiosk, "power suite" work stations and even a couple of open baby grand pianos for guests to enjoy. There's also a permanent public art installation (complete with audio tours) and robots roaming the terminal to assist and entertain passengers. Over a dozen different eateries and places to get coffee are available between the two terminals.
