How to Get to the Airport
From San Juan, travel Route 66 east, then take Route 3 east, which will become Route 53. Take Exit 2. Signs will direct you to the airport. Turn left on Tarawa Drive. The trip takes about an hour and a half.
What to Do at the Airport
Since the airport is small, it does not offer many amenities. In fact, its single snack bar may or may not be closed, depending on when you travel. This is an airport for catching quick flights with very little inconvenience.
However, there are many attractions in and around Ceiba. You can take eco-tours, or go canoeing and kayaking. Horseback tours are available, or you can go to the beach at El Malecon de La Ceiba. You can also go river rafting.
Puerto Rico has more than its share of violence associated with drugs and gang activity. As a visitor, you could be a target of a crime or become a victim as in innocent bystander.
