Cheap Flights to Baden-Württemberg

The main airport in the state of Baden-Württemberg is Stuttgart Airport. Other airport options in the area include the Bodensee Airport in Friedrichshafen and the Karlsruhe / Baden-Baden Airport. One could also fly into Strasbourg, Basel, Zurich or several other surrounding cities and reach the state quickly by high-speed rail. Regardless of the travel plan you choose, many great deals on flights to the area are available throughout the year.

Baden-Württemberg High and Low Seasons

No matter where you go in Germany, you're looking at pretty much the same travel seasons. The summer months of June to August see the largest influx of visitors, particularly August. During this time you can expect the highest overall airfare and hotel prices, although you may still find some good deals on weekdays. Traffic eases up but the weather remains fairly good during the spring period of March to May and the fall period of September and October. During the winter off-season you'll find the best possible prices, but be prepared for cold temperatures and the possibility of snow.

Major annual events in Baden-Württemberg include Blood Friday in May, the Stocherkahnrennen boat race in June, the Mooser Wasserprozession boat parade in July, and the Schwörfeier festival in July.

Baden-Württemberg Airport Tips

Stuttgart Airport is relatively small and has relatively little in the way of amenities. It does offer free WiFi, a bar and lounge, a conference center and two restaurants, however.

Bodensee Airport is also small, but tends to be a little better regarded by travelers thanks to lower traffic, more creature comforts and a better range of available food. It is also the southernmost airport in all of Germany.

Karlsruhe / Baden-Baden Airport is another small facility. There isn't anything particularly bad about it, but it is the most lacking in amenities of all the regional options. There is no free WiFi, food options are very limited and the airport closes at midnight and does not allow travelers to stay overnight.

Transportation from Baden-Württemberg's Airports

You can catch the S-Bahn train directly from Stuttgart Airport, which will take you throughout the state as well as over to Bavaria and Berlin if desired. There is also regular and inexpensive shuttle service to the small town of Tübingen. Of course, car rental is also available from many of the usual chains such as Hertz, Europcar and Enterprise.

Bodensee Airport has a train station served by both the BOB and German Railways lines. A few buses are also available to nearby towns, and during the winter special shuttles are available to the nearby ski areas. Options for car hire from this airport include Europcar, Hertz and Sixt.

Karlsruhe / Baden-Baden Airport connects to the ICE and TGV train lines. Two buses are also available that cover a variety of stops in the area. Car rental is available on site from Hertz and Sixt.
