Bangkok Travel Tips

Bangkok has many annual festivals and events, such as Songkran, which is held in April. Traditional rituals and games take place on the riverfront. Another popular annual event is the Sanam Luang, a Thai sports, kite and music festival. Chinese New Year and the Vegetarian Festival are also popular events for locals and guests. Outdoor parades and dancing take place on the weekends and are some of the city's best forms of entertainment.

Chinese and Thai cuisine are the most popular types of food in Bangkok, but the city's large size and considerable population of immigrants mean that visitors can also try out plenty of other Southeast Asian specialties, Indian cuisine and other ethnic foods. A typical dinner for two in Bangkok costs about $50 in a restaurant or $10 from a street vendor. Average daily temperatures in the city are 89 degrees Fahrenheit in December and 95 degrees in April. Business travelers might consider a day trip through the Rattanakosin district where most of the city’s historic locations can be found.
