Cheap Flights to Cape Town

Cape Town offers visitors a wide array of activities, from wine tasting to swimming with sharks and everything in between. Perhaps one of the most diverse destinations in the world, the Mother City is home to a mix of cultures that have roots in Europe, India, Malaysia and, of course, Africa. From London, cheap flights to Cape Town are just under eight hours long. As one of the most popular destinations in Africa, the city draws a number of European visitors during its summer months. When you fly into Cape Town, you'll be conveniently located just a few hours from the Southernmost point of Africa, a range of wildlife and some of the most beautiful beaches in the world.

Fly to Cape Town International Airport

Cape Town International Airport (CPT) is the second busiest airport in South Africa. With both international and domestic terminals, CPT is serviced by 25 airline carriers, including British and South African Airways. The airport is located about a 20-minute drive outside of the city center, and a taxi into the city will cost about $20. You can also choose from a number of major car rental companies, including Avis, Budget and Europcar. Renting a car is a good idea if you plan to visit the nearby Cape Winelands or take a trip down the picturesque Garden Route. There are hotel accommodations at the airport which may suit some business travelers.

Attractions
In the City Center, you'll find a number of museums that will provide a great deal of knowledge about the history of the area, including the Slave Lodge and the District Six Museum. You can also easily access the Table Mountain Cable Car, which will bring you to the top of this natural wonder, giving you what is undoubtedly the best view in the city. Just outside of the city, many visitors enjoy visiting Stellenbosch, one of South Africa's premier wine regions. Hermanus is also a short drive from Cape Town, and it's known as one of the best whale watching cities in the world.

Hints and Tips
When visiting Cape Town, be sure to note that the seasons are the opposite of the United States. Summer lasts from November through February with average temperatures of about 73 degrees Fahrenheit. Winter runs from June through August and is rather mild, seeing temperatures of about 54 degrees. No matter what the season, expect the weather to be rather temperamental. Because of its location at the tip of Africa, Cape Town tends to have extreme winds in the summer and torrential rain in the winter. This means that you should be sure to pack layers and always bring a raincoat.

Late December and early January is one of the most popular times to visit. Known as the "Festive Season" in Cape Town, many locals take long holidays off work, and visitors flock to the city to enjoy the Christmas holidays on the beach. You'll find many exciting festivals during this time of year, including the Minstrel Carnival, which shuts down the streets on the 2nd of January.
