Cheap Flights to Hesse

Located in the German state of Hesse is Kassel Airport (KSF), a small international airstrip. It is situated just over a mile outside of the Kassel suburb of Calden, which has a population of just over 8,000. Kassel is a good-sized city of nearly 200,000. KSF is mainly used for business charters, and there is also a flight school, an ultralight school, and a parachuting school located on airport property. Sundair is the German charter carrier that services KSF.  It is a relatively new company, beginning operations in mid-2017.  Sundair flies the Airbus A320-200, a short to mid-range commercial passenger aircraft that can hold up to 174 people.

Popular Routes to Kassel Airport

The single terminal at KSF is small, but well-appointed, with a few key shops and the rental car desk. Sundair has a growing list of charter routes flying to and from Kassel Airport, which include the following:

  • Gran Canaria
  • Heraklion
  • Kos
  • Tenerif-South

See What's Beyond Kassel Airport

The city of Kassel was almost entirely destroyed during World War II, but there are several historic sights to see that miraculously survived the devastation, some of which date back to medieval times. Wilhelmshöhe Palace is part of the greater Bergpark Wilhelmshöhe, a complex in the city that is popular with locals and visitors alike.  The palace has been turned into a museum and actually is home to the second-largest collection of Rembrandts in the country. Also within the park is the Hercules Monument, which is an incredible sight to see, especially during the summer months.  The monument includes a long run of huge steps down which water runs for almost 200 feet. Last, but not least, is the Lion's Castle, a perfect replica of a medieval castle for visitors to enjoy.

Transportation from Kassel Airport

Once you have landed at Kassel Airport, you can go directly to the rental car counter if you are picking up a vehicle, as it is located right in the terminal. There is also an express bus route (number 100) that will take you right into the city center from the airport.  This same bus line also travels to the nearby rail station if you are traveling on from Kassel by train.
