Operating since the 1940s, McCarran International Airport (LAS) has seen a fair amount of change. From a small airfield, to serving the United States Army Air Corp, and then ferrying in the first resort tourists in the late 1950s. The continued rise in visitors from all over the world to this shining enclave in the Nevada dessert would result in the modern city we recognize today as an entertainment capital. Some of the most popular carriers flying to Vegas include American Airlines, Delta, JetBlue, Southwest, United, Virgin America and Westjet.

There is an inter-terminal shuttle service that runs between the terminals every 12-15 minutes, which is free of charge. Other amenities include exclusive lounges, free wireless internet, access to ATMs, currency exchange booths, a kids play area, a huge plethora of retail and dining options, along with an Aviation Museum, and of course, slot machines for gaming.

A taxi to the Strip will cost you around $20-25. Shared-ride vans are far cheaper if you are travelling alone, and will cost $8 per head, one-way. Of course, the cheapest option is to jump on the RTC city line - a bargain at only $3.

There is a Rental Car Shuttle that leaves outside the terminal, and will take you to the Car Center, that offers services from all the major rental companies, such as Avis, Budget, Enterprise, Hertz and Thrifty.

The major attractions in Vegas include the casinos, bars and clubs that run along the length of the Las Vegas Strip. Dress up, and go for a meal in the luxurious Bellagio, dress down and relax on the lazy river at Mandalay Bay, let your hair down at MGM’s famous Hakkasan club, or scale the Stratosphere Tower and feel the thrills on nearby amusement park rides.

Remember, not everything Vegas has to offer is along the Strip. You can head to Fremont Street, and wander down an avenue that has become instantly recognizable in popular culture. Venture further afield and see Red Rock National Park and the stunning feat of human engineering that is the Hoover Dam. You can view our list of things to do in Las Vegas as well.

Travel Tips For When Visiting Las Vegas

Expect seasonal changes in weather, with summer temperatures soaring above 100°F, and lows in winter sinking to a comfortable 35°F. The sun shines most days of the year, and all the major hotels and entertainment venues in the city keep the air conditioning on constantly, so you’ll be comfortable.

Eating here can be as expensive or cheap as you like, but on average, two people will run up a $60 bill for a decent dinner.

For a truly memorable experience during your stay in this city, book a helicopter tour to the nearby Grand Canyon, an incredible natural wonder, and an interesting contrast to the glitz of the city. While gambling remains the biggest show in town, expect some major international artists to be performing during your visit.
