Oklahoma City Will Rogers Airport

Oklahoma’s capital and largest city, OKC is home to over 610,000 people and continues to show marked growth. The greater Oklahoma City metropolitan region has expanded to nearly 1.4 million in 2013, and the city is deemed the eighth largest in the United States by land area.

Given its southern location, the oil, petroleum, and natural gas industries have a major influence in “The Big Friendly,” which account for a majority of its economic output. Like many cities in the Southern/Midwest region of the United States, Oklahoma City does not have as a big reputation from a vacationer perspective, but there is no denying it has a strong tourist sector and lots of fun attractions in store for visitors.

Flights to Oklahoma City

Will Rogers World Airport is The 405’s primary commercial airport, and one that serves most of the state’s residents. Named after famous, local cowboy and comedian, the airport is the only one in the world to use “world” in its official title without referencing its respective city name.

Interestingly enough, the airport has never offered flights to any international destination. It is a central flight hub for Southwest Airlines, which accounts for one-third of the airport’s annual passenger traffic, and it is the state’s busiest for cargo transport. The U.S. Army Air Force once used Will Rogers extensively for military training operations during World War II.

The airport has been undergoing a massive, multi-phase renovation project since 2001. Since its inception, it has witnessed the addition of new walkways, elevator and escalator cores, terminal expansions, and a wide array of facility improvements. American Airlines, Delta, United, US Airways, and Frontier Airlines all offer nonstop flights to Oklahoma.
