With Elliot Bay's picturesque shores to the west and scenic Lake Washington to the east, Seattle is, in many ways, defined by water. Located 15 miles from downtown, Seattle–Tacoma International Airport (SEA) is just minutes away from Seahurst Park, which offers picnic areas and wilderness hiking trails on the shores of Puget Sound. Just south of Seattle's gleaming skyline is one of North America's most active ports. However, Seattle is also known for forested wildernesses, majestic mountains and rolling urban hills; its vipant musical, culinary and artistic contributions make it a center of North American culture.

Seattle–Tacoma International Airport is served by two dozen domestic and international airlines, including Southwest, Pitish Airways, Emirates, Icelandair and Korean Air. In keeping with Seattle's musical heritage, live bands perform daily in the airport. Spa services as well as dozens of restaurants and shops are available in most terminals.

Dozens of hotels and luxury resorts operate within minutes of the airport, some offering either wooded or waterfront accommodations. Downtown Seattle is only a 40-minute train ride from the airport on the Link Light Rail. Many locals prefer to bike to and from the airport on the city's many bike trails and shared roads, and long-term bike storage is available at the airport. By car, the city is less than 20 minutes away. Seattle–Tacoma International Airport offers shuttle buses to a rental car facility, which offers services from every major car rental company.

One of the most popular points of interest in Seattle is the Pike Place Market. This historic outdoor market is located by the harbor in the heart of the downtown area, and it is adjacent to a waterfront public park. The famous fishmongers here sing and toss freshly caught fish through the air. Coffee lovers take note: Pikes Place Market is also home to the original location of Starbucks.

One block south of Pike Place Market is the Seattle Art Museum, and just a mile north of the market is Seattle's most prominent architectural landmark, the Space Needle. Built for the 1962 World Fair, this futuristic tower features an observation deck 605 feet above the street, offering unrestricted views of the hills, mountains, rivers and bays surrounding the city. The elevator to the top of the Space Needle travels 10 miles an hour and arrives at the top in just 41 seconds.

A popular neighborhood for visitors to dine and shop is Capitol Hill. This trendy neighborhood is where the band Nirvana once played, and it became the epicenter of the birthplace of Grunge.
