Cheap Flights To Wales

Wales Airport

The airport in Wales is a small public facility. It has no amenities. It is just a place to land and take off. Wales is the most western town in the continental United States. On clear days you can see Russia from this small Inupiat Eskimo Village. The 145 residents of Wales love to have visitors, but it's a lot of flying to get there. From your starting point, you must fly to Anchorage. Your next stop is Nome, and from there you fly to Wales.

Things To Do In Wales

There is not a lot to do in Wales, unless you go in the summer when the locals have their dance festival. It is the most popular event that takes place all year, and many visitors come to enjoy it. You can dine on reindeer, moose, seal oil, and bowhead whale. There are plenty of hiking opportunities that will draw your interest including some unusual rock formations above the village. There are many old graves on the ridges, and you'll find animal bones as well. Show respect to the villagers by not taking any bones, artifacts, or anything else you find. Their ancestors buried their dead on the ridges, and the graves are sacred. North of the village is the large Lopp Lagoon that is certainly worth a visit. The villagers have used it as a source for salmon and water birds. Look for reindeer as you are hiking. You may get some great photo opportunities. Before you go to Wales, you should call the village office and alert them to your trip. Lodging is very limited, and during the summer it fills up quickly. Some of the villagers rent out rooms. If you are willing to stay in a local home, the city offices can provide you with names. Planning a trip to Wales is a challenge, but it's well worth the effort.
