Austria's second biggest city is known for it's universities, culture, and well-preserved city center, which is a UNESCO zone. Graz played host to Europe's cultural capital in 2003. The rich concentration of gorgeous buildings showcasing Renaissance, Gothic, and Baroque architecture can easily be explored by foot. For a view over the city, climb the Schlossberg.
The locals in Graz kept saying that tourists never visit Graz, yet they have a tour bus taking people around this picturesque city. With a permanent population of 250,000 this is a very manageable city to visit. There's lots of attractive architecture and the city centre features a huge park as well as a mountain and a river. The 50,000 students attending the 6 universities keep the central core lively with many bars and cafes.
Small city, with great location surrounded by mountains. The river crossing the city center, great contemporary architecture spots. Lovely place!
As close to five stars as you can get - so many places in Austria are. Graz is conveniently located and is full of historic charm, excellent food, reasonable accommodations and great proximity to other day trips. I would go back in a minute!
