Just when I thought we had experience all the best carnivals in Brazil including Rio, Salvador and Recife, along came Olinda. Originally the Dutch capital of Brazil in the 1600’s this perfect little colonial town has been getting on with its own version of carnival for centuries. Forget the mammoth sound-systems loaded onto trucks that Recife is famous for, or the rather stage-managed, over-hyped Sambadrome event in Rio, Olinda’s carnival is traffic free! Party in the cobbled streets following various bands, all on foot, parading their best local dancers and knocking out some brilliant tunes. Yes there is samba, but also the odd bit of reggae but is the frevo which Olinda is famous for, a mixture of capoeira movements and twirling umbrellas – go figure? It’s all good fun. I highly recommend visiting especially in carnival and if you like good food, art and music then Olinda is going to be your special little place in Brazil.
Carnaval em Olinda é inesquecível! Você sempre vai querer voltar para esta cidade das ladeiras e curtir o que há de melhor em Pernambuco!
É muito lindo e tranquilo demais! tem que ver !
