What a fantastic gem of a city! After the hustle and bustle of Florence, it is wonderful to take a bike ride around the city walls, or enjoy the lack of crowds at the cathedral in the center of the town.
This walled city is a joy to visit every time we are in Italy. A great place to sit in a cafe and people watch, check out the history and enjoy a walk on top of the wall. Great restaurants/trattorias too to make the trip memorable. Also has a once-a-month antique market in the main piazza melding out into the surrounding streets. However, you must park you car in a parking area and walk through most of the city as there are some streets where only residents are permitted to drive through.
The city with 100 churches (for which it gained its name “La citta’ delle cento chiese”). Lucca has been proposed as a Unesco heritage site because of its perfectly preserved walls
This fairy tale walled town in Tuscany checks all the right boxes. Wander around its narrow ancient streets. Bike ride along its protective outer walls.
