Touring Milan on a Budget

Milan isn't known as a budget destination. However, that doesn't mean you have to break the bank to see lots of amazing sights. Here are a few places we highly recommend. May and October are considered the rainy months, but there are fewer tourists and lower prices during this season.

  • The Castello Sforzesco and its fortresses are visible from the city streets of Milan. Only a modest entrance fee of $6 is required to explore the castle grounds beyond its gates.
  • Santa Maria Delle Grazie, is where Leonardo Da Vinci's masterpiece fresco The Last Supper is on display. A visit here requires some planning as reservations are needed so that no more than 30 guests are in the viewing area. Each tour is limited to 15 minutes, though it is free.
  • One of Europe's most famous structures is the famed Duomo. This site astounds visitors with elaborate facades and stained glass windows. Entry is free, however, crowds can be large, so plan to arrive early in the day.
