I took an Intercity Bus day tour from Queenstown to Christchurch and the highlight of the trip for me was seeing Mt. Cook and the surrounding picturesque lakes. The tour stopped about 2 hrs at the lodge area nearest to Mt. Cook for lunch break. Most stay one night here to do day hikes and then get back on next day’s bus.

A gorgeous spanse of nature on the South Island - Mt. Cook National Park is home to glaciers and gorgeous terrain carved out by their ancient paths. The whole park is perfect for hikes - day hikes, week hikes, hikes that crest volcanic ridges, and ones that thrust you high up into the frigid atmosphere. It's a hiker's playground, and very underrated.

Beautiful beyond words!
