In the Ottoman Empire this town was called "Town of the consuls". Numerous embassies were here, hence lots of residences have been built on the main avenue, which is called "Shirok Sokak", so everything interesting is situated on this street or nearby. Mind to visit the biggest Orthodox church of st. Demetrius. A wonderful wood-carved altar is inside this church, a must-see. There are some bars/restaurants on the main street, but usually there are lots of people inside. If you turn into one of many lans you will find cozy and more empty places to eat and enjoy a cup od coffee

This city of nearly 100,000 located about a two hour drive east from Lake Ohrid provides a vibrant and colorful place to visit. Impressive well preserved 18th-19th Century townhouses, Ottoman mosques and narrow streets coupled with a vibrant cafe life makes it a good place to visit even if just for a day.

Bitola is an administrative, cultural, industrial, commercial, and educational centre. It is located in the southern part of the Pelagonia valley, surrounded by the Baba and Nidže mountains. It is an important junction connecting the south of the Adriatic Sea with the Aegean Sea and Central Europe. It has been known since the Ottoman period as "the city of the consuls", since many European countries have consulates in Bitola. Bitola holds many secrets from the past and is characterized by many historical buildings so you’ll love strolling through the streets marveling at the beautiful buildings. There are many things to do in Bitola such as visiting the churches and mosques, the Old Bazaar for a bit of shopping, Heraclea Lyncestis and Bitola’s National Theater for an evening out in the city. Heraclea Lyncestis is a ancient Macedonian town found by the ancient Macedonian King Phillip 2nd in the middle of the 4th century BC, but most of the remains that can be seen in Heraclea Lyncestis are from the Roman and the early Christian period. The Ancient theater is located in the central part of the city and dominates with its architectural beauty, especially with the decorated and lively south front. It represents a skilled synthesis of the basic elements characteristic for the famous theaters and amphitheatres. Its universality enabled staging of various programs. In the early Byzantine period (4th to 6th centuries AD) Heraclea was an important episcopal centre. Some of its bishops have been noted in the acts of the Church Councils as bishop Evagrius of Heraclea in the Acts of the Sardica Council from 343 AD. A Small and a Great (Large) basilica, the bishop's residence, a Funeral (grave) basilica near the necropolis are some of the remains of this period. Three naves in the Great Basilica are covered with mosaics of very rich floral and figurative iconography. Excavations are still being conducted on the locality. Many of its structures are being revitalized and are used for housing various cultural and artistic manifestations. This is especially characteristic for the Theatre where musical performances, theatrical performances, literary happenings are held. Heraclea is a constituent part of the rich cultural offer of contemporary Bitola. Pelister is the oldest national park in Republic of Macedonia and is filled with exquisite flora and fauna. Among flora elements, the presence is especially significant of the FIVE-needle Pine Molica, Pinus peuce - a unique species of tertiary age being present on only a few mountains in the Balkan Peninsula. Characteristic fact for this molika tree is that it can live approx 200 – 300 years. Pelister is also known for its two mountain lakes, which are called Pelister's Eyes.
