Beautiful little town that serves as a base for exploring the Highlands. I was really impressed by the number of dining options here — and surprised to learn that most expected reservations for Saturday lunch. When in doubt, book ahead!
If you're looking for a spot to stay in Inverness, try the Ardconnel House B&B. It also happens to be within walking distance of Contrast Brasserie where we had a great dinner. Inverness is pretty close to the Loch Ness Centre & Exhibition (but I didn't really find that to be all that worthwhile).
What a pretty town, with a lovely river walk, picturesque grounds around Inverness Castle, a charming old town, a very nice modern shopping mall & the free Inverness Museum & Art Gallery. We met lots of friendly locals and enjoyed free internet at Waterston's bookstore at East Gate Shopping Center.
It's one of my favorite places I've been in Scotland. I thought I could live here when I arrived. With the river flowing in the center, the town is beautiful and people are friendly. Also a great place to base yourself for your Highlands trip.
