Brownsville is a spicy Texan city close to the border with Mexico where you’ll find great Tex Mex food, easy access to the Rio Grande, and a quick hop over the border to Tamaulipas in Mexico. Brownsville is a city in flux, with many residents flocking in from all to profit from NAFTA’s manufacturing sector. As such, it can be a bit tough to find the right hotel room for your stay there. When you book with us here at Skyscanner, we’ll make sure that your accommodations in Brownsville suit your fancy.
Nearly all the hotels in Brownsville are located along route 83 and route 77, which run parallel to each other in opposite directions right down the middle of the city. Because the hotels are on the highway, it’s easy to window shop for a hotel Brownsville. There isn’t any particular area that’s cheaper than any other when it comes to hotels in Brownsville, so it’s best to stick to the hotels next to the highway.
There are a couple of hotels located near the Garcia Middle School in the East part of town, where there is also a cluster of restaurants. Choices here are pretty minimal, and it’s a bit out of the way, so you should probably just book a hotel room that’s close to the interstate for ease of access. You don’t gain much of a price advantage by booking a room that’s farther away from the center.
You can pay anywhere from under $100 to under $200 for your hotel room in Brownsville, depending on what kind of room you book. There’s an assortment of relatively seedy chain motels as well as an assortment of more reputable chain hotels in the lower, middle, and upper price ranges.
No matter what hotel you pick in Brownsville, your room will come with parking and Wi-fi. There are a few fancier hotels which offer pools and spas, though some of these aren’t as well kept as others. If you book with one of the large international chain hotels, you can bet that your money will get you a better-maintained amenity selection than elsewhere, though you’ll pay slightly more.
The hotel you pick in Brownsville can change what you should expect very drastically. If you pick a very cheap motel, expect to be surrounded by criminal activities involving the drug trade and potentially human trafficking trade as well. If you pick one of the more expensive hotels in Brownsville, you can expect room service, as many fresh towels as you could possibly want, and a piano in the lobby. It all depends on which hotel you pick.
The crime in Brownsville is an element that shouldn’t be understated—Brownsville is not always a safe city, which is why if you’re passing through Brownsville, you should stick to the main roads, which are interstates. Traffic flows quickly through these areas, and you’ll never be far from your hotel or access to anything else you might need.
I liked the city of Brownsville. I was there in 2009, and I enjoyed the friendliness of the people. There is a scarcity of restaurants there, but no matter, I would jump at the chance of revisiting Brownsville.
