Los Angeles is known for its massive sprawl, Hollywood, and as the home of the movie industry. It’s also known as Southern California’s largest city, as well as one of the largest cities in the world. Confusingly, many of Los Angeles’ sprawling exurbs are frequently lumped in with Los Angeles, so don’t be surprised if your hotel appears to be in a different city.
If you’re looking for a cheap hotel in Los Angeles, we can help you find the best rate when you book with us here at Skyscanner.
Los Angeles is massive, spanning an entire valley and possessing thousands of miles of roadways. You can find any hotel that your heart could imagine in Los Angeles, provided that you’re willing to travel far enough and pay enough.
This includes major international chain hotels, local hotels, hostels, bed and breakfasts, camping sites, rentable houseboats, and more. No matter what kind of hotel experience you’re looking for, you’ll be able to find it somewhere in LA. The exact location that you book your hotel within LA can make a big difference in terms of the price, however.
LA is massive, so the location that you book your hotel matters. What do you plan on doing while in LA? If you’re in LA just to tour, the downtown area near Mission Junction has a wide variety of upscale hotels that are central to the skyscraper-laden core of LA. Keep in mind that LA’s skyscrapers are not the definitional features of the city, so you may not get the most authentic LA experience by booking in downtown.
The catch with booking here is that there are very few tourist attractions in downtown LA, but it also isn’t too far from any single point in the rest of the city. There are also a few deals to be found when you book a hotel in downtown LA, and the exact street doesn’t matter so there are plenty of options to choose from.
You’ll need a car to get around in Los Angeles, so be ready to rent one.
Nearly all transportation in LA is by car, and ridesharing gets expensive very quickly, so the best solution is to rent. The public transit system in LA is very weak, and barely covers the typical tourist destinations like Hollywood. Aside from the Caltrain system and the occasional bus, there isn’t any public transportation to speak of, and taxis are generally on-call but extremely expensive.
Expect traffic to be extremely heavy, and expect to take at least thirty to forty minutes to reach any neighborhood outside of downtown during the day. The good news is that if you leave in the morning and return to the downtown in the area in the evening, you’ll be facing much less traffic because there’s little residential traffic heading toward downtown during that time.
Great time for those looking to explore the tourist side of Los Angeles, the laid back chill of Santa Monica or the glam of Beverly Hills.
Howlin is the best chicken you will ever have hands down. Yes the line does suck but....deal with it. The chicken goes from no spice to kill you levels! Seriously the sandwich is life changing
The City is awesome and the people are very open to talking with you. It has also many opportunities to go shopping or just sit in a cafe and relax. Finding some restaurants to eat is also not that difficult and at nearly every corner is a Starbucks!!
Best place I’ve ever been!! And will always be, grateful to come here so often!
