A town that originally rejected Steinbeck now tries to ride his coattails in the hope that it will give it some class and income. There are a few interesting places in town but its not really worth a stop on the way to Carmel and Monterey.

Home to John Steinbeck and his many stories, Salinas is the quiet town along 101 on your way to Los Angeles. There's not much to see here but there is history. Check it out.

I mostly like Salinas because I read a lot of Steinbeck when I was a kid. Without that, I might think this is just some boring town in the middle of California.
