Things to do in Honolulu
When people think "vacation", Honolulu (or something much like it) is one of the first places that comes to mind. Hawaii's tropical capital enjoys mild weather all year long and an extended dry season from May to October. The beach and outdoor adventures are usually the main draw for visitors, but Honolulu is also the state's center for dining, nightlife and shopping.
Prime hiking spots in the area include Diamond Head, Hanauma Bay, Nu'uanu Pali, and Koko Head. Waikiki Beach is the most celebrated stretch of sand for lounging and surfing, but there are many other quality beach spots in the Honolulu area: Kuhio, Kahala, Ala Moana and Fort DeRussy among them.
Honolulu is also a must-see for American history buffs, particularly those interested in military history. Pearl Harbor is still in use as an active military installation, but also hosts a variety of museums and historic sites such as the Pacific Aviation Museum, the Battleship Missouri and USS Arizona memorials, the USS Bowfin Submarine Museum and the Pearl Harbor Historic Site. In addition to naval history, many visitors enjoy the 'Iolani Palace, Honolulu Museum of Art, Moanalua Gardens and the Hawaii State Art Museum.
