Arriving in Chicago
The Windy City has strong character and an intense energy. The gorgeous art-deco skyscrapers set the scene for a city still steeped in history. The Chicago Architecture Foundation River Cruise is a fun and fascinating way to get a good look at the bones of the city from a whole new vantage point.
Grant Park is worth a visit, too. Walking paths wind through flower gardens, green fields, and baseball diamonds, leading to the lovely Buckingham Fountain, which is one of the largest in the world. Every hour on the hour between 9am and 10:35pm, you can catch one of its 20-minute choreographed displays, where jets of water are flung 150 feet into the air. The park is also home to some of the city’s best attractions, including the Shedd Aquarium, the Field Museum, and the Art Institute of Chicago.
Chicago is famous as the cradle of comedy, bringing up generations of talented comedians through its many clubs like Second City. Grab a drink at one of the shows and you just might find yourself watching tomorrow’s big star. This is also a great city for eating. Chicago restaurants are on par with the best in the world, but just be sure to set aside a meal or two to indulge in the city’s specialties of deep dish pizza and hot dogs.
