The Airports in Orlando and New York City

Orlando International Airport (MCO) is the primary airport serving the central Florida metropolitan area and is the second busiest in the state. Six airlines fly from Orlando to New York, including American Airlines, Delta, JetBlue, Southwest Airlines, Spirit Airlines, and United. All of the airlines offer non-stop flights from MCO to one of the three major airports in New York.

Fly directly to or on a connecting flight into the Big Apple using JFK, Newark, or LaGuardia airports. All three of the airports are infamous for delayed arrival times, so be sure to choose the right airport to get you to your destination in the city on time. If you're mostly staying in the outer boroughs of the city, consider JFK in southern Queens or Laguardia in the northern section. Although Newark is in New Jersey, it's only about a half hour to the city and is probably the best option if you're planning to stay in Manhattan. How to Save Time Flying Out of MCO

When flying out of Orlando, make sure you're ready to breeze through check-in and security without a glitch. You can check-in before you even arrive at the terminal in MCO's parking garages A and B. To do so, you must arrive at least 90 minutes prior to your scheduled flight but no more than 4 hours. Be sure to bring your government-issued photo ID for check-in.

What to Do at Orlando International

If you're looking for something to do while you wait for boarding, both terminals A and B in MCO provide fabulous dining, shopping, and relaxation spots. There is a hotel atrium that connects the two sides with a nice city park atmosphere if you prefer a low-key time to yourself. You could also head up to the terminal top parking garage for incredible views of the planes, downtown Orlando, or many of the city's tourist attractions. All public areas of the airport provide Wi-Fi free of charge.

Prepare for Weather and Cost of Living Differences

Depending on the time of the year you choose to travel to New York, the weather in Orlando can vary greatly from the Empire City. Make sure you're ready for the change in climate once you step foot off the plane. A winter departure may require nothing more than a light jacket in Florida, while at the same time temperatures drop into freezing in the northeast.

The cost of living in New York is slightly higher than in Orlando, so prepare accordingly. Of course, you'll also want to account for transportation costs across Manhattan.
