Peak and Low Seasons in Los Angeles
As one of the world's most popular (and populated) cities, Los Angeles almost always has a good amount of traffic heading in and out. Fortunately, there's also lots of airlines and hotels handling all this traffic, so it's very possible to find good deals on both throughout the year.
The heaviest period for tourism is the summer months (June to August). There's a small surge of snowbirds in winter, so the spring and fall are actually the periods with the lowest traffic and the best deals, even though these also tend to be the periods with the nicest weather.
Major events to consider going to (or avoiding due to the heavy crowds) include the Rose Bowl Parade on New Years Day, Chinese New Year and the Academy Awards in February, the Los Angeles Marathon in March, Cinco de Mayo in May, the Pride celebration in June, the US Open of Surfing around early August and Dia de los Muertes in November.
Lodgings Near Los Angeles International Airport
A number of hotels are available right near the airport along W. Century Blvd. and Airport Blvd. These are mostly upscale chain hotels such as Marriott Courtyard, Sheraton, Hilton and Hyatt. There are a handful of budget properties that may offer lower rates, however, such as Super 8 and Travelodge.
Of course, all sorts of hotels and motels are available in the city, but the closest large cluster to the airport would be in Santa Monica. These are near the beach, however, so expect rates to generally be on the high side. For budget options, look along Highway 110 a few blocks east of the airport.
