With three airports to choose from, the nation’s capital is one of the easiest cities to fly in or out of in the United States.  Washington Dulles, Ronald Reagan International, and Baltimore Washington International airports all service the D.C. area.  The city itself sits between Maryland and Virginia and each airport is situated to ensure easy access via several major highways.

 

Flying out of the Washington, D.C. Area

BWI, DCA, and IAD are all full-service airports with excellent facilities. For flights to San Antonio, BWI is the airstrip that will get you there. Formerly known as Friendship Airport, BWI is closer to downtown Baltimore than it is to D.C. (nine miles versus 32 miles) and is a hub for Southern Airways Express as well as a focus city for Southwest Airlines.

 

Ground Transportation to Baltimore Washington International

BWI is also referred to as Thurgood Marshall Airport, named for the first African-American and Baltimore native to serve on the U.S. Supreme Court.  You have several options when it comes to getting to BWI, including a free shuttle from the nearest rail station.  Buses are also available, and the B30 and 75 routes have stops on or adjacent to the airport property.  Shuttles directly to and from hotels are also popular in the D.C. area.
