When is the Best Time to Visit Hawaii?

Palm trees swaying, endless clear blue ocean reaching out to the tip of the sunset – perhaps it’s time to plan your next adventure to Hawaii, a popular destination for all types of travelers. The question, however, is when is the best time to go? Here are some things to consider when planning out your trip to Hawaii.

If you’re dreaming about a piña colada on a white sand beach, there’s not a wrong time to visit Hawaii. The Aloha spirit and island vibes are a year-round presence on this Pacific archipelago.

So when is the best time to visit Hawaii? It depends what you’re looking for.

If you want abundant sunshine with no chance of rain than you’re likely to miss out on whale watching. If you want to travel when it’s cheapest, you might be sacrificing the surf. No matter what you’re looking for, we have the answer on when it’s your best time to visit Hawaii.

Best Time to Visit Hawaii: For Good Weather

Clear skies, warm air, and sunshine for days. Let’s be honest– this is why most of us dream about the Hawaiian islands.

And for the most part, Hawaii is always warm. The average daytime weather in the summer is 85 degrees, while it’s still an average high of 78 in the winter.

Hawaii’s dry season is typically from April through September. This is the best time to visit if you don’t want to worry about a sudden storm interrupting your afternoon at the beach. However, even during the wet months, rain falls mostly at night on the islands and if you have a wet day, it’s unlikely to last for very long.

Best Time to Visit Hawaii: For Less Crowds

The most popular month (aka the busiest) to visit Hawaii is July, followed closely by December.

June through August is also a popular time to visit, especially for families whose kids are out of school. December, January, and February are typically the coldest months on the continental U.S., so Hawaii sees an influx of warmth-seeking tourists at this time.

If you’re looking to have the islands all to yourself (or as much as possible), than the best time to visit would be during the shoulder months of April/May and September/October.
