Skyscanner Previews the NFL’s 2017 Thanksgiving Day Schedule

August is one of the best months, if not the best month, to book cheap flights for Thanksgiving. Why? Because it’s fairly easy to score inexpensive plane tickets, there’s plenty of time to plan your trip, and the 2017 NFL season is just getting started.

When planning your 2017 Thanksgiving vacation, try not to focus on how awful uncle Alex is or how you could really care less for sister Susy’s repeated holiday antics. Instead, rest easy knowing that your Thanksgiving will be filled with 12+ hours of quality football. So, while your family further attempts to solidify the crazy label it has earned over the years, you can step away from it all by enjoying great food, cold beer and three games of NFL-awesomeness.

Here’s a quick preview of the NFL’s 2017 Thanksgiving Day schedule – A.K.A. the Thanksgiving Day list of football games to watch rather than deal with your crazy family:

Vikings at Lions (12:30 p.m. EST, on FOX)

Who will win the 2017 Thanksgiving Day showdown between the Minnesota Vikings and Detroit Lions?

While Minnesota and Detroit continue to battle for NFL relevance, it’s worth noting that this will be the second and final time these division rivals will face one another during the 2017 regular season.

Detroit has looked listless over the past few seasons while the Vikings haven’t done a whole heck of a lot to get excited about. However, anytime Sam Bradford and Matthew Stafford take the field and face one another, fans are often treated to a high-caliber passing attack that leads to an enjoyable game.

Chargers at Cowboys (4:30 p.m. EST on CBS)

Phillip Rivers squares off against Dak Prescott and the Dallas Cowboys on Thanksgiving Day, 2017.

Things just got exciting! At 4:30 p.m. EST on Thanksgiving Day, right around the same time dinner will be hitting the table for many of you, the Los Angeles Chargers will square off against the Dallas Cowboys at AT&T stadium.

What makes this game so interesting, on paper at least, are the matchups between Phillip Rivers vs. Dak Prescott, Melvin Gordon vs. Ezekiel Elliot, and a hopefully healthy Kennan Allen vs. Dez Bryant. Let’s not forget that Tony Romo, the recently retired Cowboys QB, was hired by CBS and is slated to call the game from the broadcast booth. That, in and of itself, should be more entertaining than listening to your cousins bicker over a few bucks lost during family poker.

Giants at Redskins (8:30 p.m. EST on NBC)

Two games down, one to go, and I personally think that the NFL saved the best for last.

Anyone who follows football knows how entertaining it is to watch Odell Beckham Jr. square off against Josh Norman. The first three times they’ve been opposite one another on the field, fans were treated to gritty spectacles fueled by controversy and an abundance of charisma. This Thanksgiving should be more of the same. But outside of OBJ vs. Norman IV, football fanatics are in for a classic rivalry game that’s been slated for one of the most widely watched time slots of the 2017 NFL season. Every NFL fan and their mother will be watching this game, assuming of course they haven’t already ate / drank themselves into sleepy stupor.
