Acapulco, Puerto Vallarta, and the Pacific Coast Vacations

Mexico's Pacific coast has reinvented itself many times and returned from near-obscurity to rival Cancún and the Mayan Riviera as Mexico's premier beach destination. While it seems physically impossible to fit this many things to do in one city, Puerto Vallarta's got it all. From shopping to kite-surfing, mariachi dinner theater to volunteer turtle ... Read more
repatriation, and all-night parties along the malecón to soothing nopales cactus massages, you could visit PV 100 times without doing the same thing twice. Gay or lesbian? Puerto Vallarta can't welcome you enough, with LGBT-friendly nightlife, excursions and hotels. Nearby, the resort town of Mazatlán delights visitors with its colonial old town. Acapulco is famous for its cliff divers, but stay a while and enjoy the beaches and restaurants.

the year’s highest humidity and temperatures, does have some perks: the predictability of the rain (it usually only comes in the afternoons so you can get your beachtime and sightseeing done in the morning), cheaper hotel prices, fewer crowds, and a chance to see nature come to life with the nourishing water. You can also try to plan a trip during the months before and after high season -- November and May -- to try and snag good deals without as much wet weather.

First place I visited Mexico was Mexico City and and too the bus to Acapulco area I fell in love with the Pacific coast side until I discovered the Cancun and the Caribbean side.

Puerto Vallarta is a beautiful city. So glad we came here for a week during my spring break because this place was a eye opener for the both of us. Others may want a party spring break week, but others may want a relaxing and to themselves kind of week or Vacay and Puerto Vallarta had given me that feeling. Relaxed, nice people and great Mexican food. The city may look all old and dirty, but that's just how they live and how the city is like.

-Make sure to spray yourself with some bug spray because you don't want to be bite by sand fleas like we did. It itches a lot!
- Always bring sunscreen with you because the sun is pretty strong during the days.
-bottle water recommended
- drinking is allowed on the street (must be in plastic cup or in cans) no glass
- taking bus is cheaper than taxis (50 cent us per person)

You cannot leave this place without experiencing street tacos! Most shops on the street are cheap, you'll know when you see. I really cannot wait to come back again.

If you fly from SFO it is only a 4 hour flight and there are non-stops.
Really great destination for families because it has both the Jungle and the Sea.
There is the main tourist area for beach.
There is horebackriding and ziplining and a dolphin habitat.
If you are looking for upscale there is the Punta Mita Area which also has great surfing.
The Four Seasons Resort Punta Mita has a great children's program.
There are some great condo properties as well.

Love Puerta Vallarta for its beaches, old colonial architecture and decent restaurants. Can take a boat ride to Yalapa, where the pie lady sells all kinds of pies on the beach

Mexico's Pacific coast offers an abundance of options too: big beachey cities like Mazatlan, Puerto Vallarta, and Acapulco, surfing towns like Sayulita and Puerto Escondido, fishing villages like Melaque and Puerto Arista, and any number of enclaves (posh and not-so-posh) all along the coastline. There really is something for everyone on this coast....
