Alameda

Weather

The San Francisco East Bay covers a lot of ground, from the buzzing cities of Berkeley and Oakland to the vineyards of Livermore. As much as the scenery changes, so too does the weather. On the coast, the ... Read more
weather is mild year round, with daytime highs ranging from the 50s (10-15C) in the winter to the 70s (21-26C) in the summer. Inland, winters are mild but the summers can get very hot, often topping 90F (32C). Like all of the Bay Area, rain is extremely rare during the summer, but you should bring a jacket no matter when you travel -- nights in Northern California are cool year-round.

Alameda is an island on the East Bay with generally a suburban flair. Just a short drive from the 880, you can see San Francisco from the island and live in some apartments here. Downtown Alameda has it's moments too, with some ice cream shops and restaurants. My preference is to go to the park at the west end for a great sunset.

I really like Alameda, but there's still so much to explore. Cross into Oakland (briefly) and they go over this cute green bridge into Alameda. Cute, Victorian styled homes, lovely small businesses and a lot of liveliness to the neighborhoods. There is a neat Marina area with a park and area to enjoy a walk along the waterfront. A great place to live and work!

Nice along the water and a few good restaurants on the main drag, but a sad, strange place overall. Kind of Stepford Wive-ish. Good location for a horror flick.

A great place to bring the family for a day. Park Street has the best shops and dining or you can go to crab cove for a good jump off point to the beaches. Note that the beaches are more of a naturalist class than a nice beach to sun bathe on.

The sun has set on a long and often difficult year, cheers to Twenty Twelve and high hopes and glad tidings!
